The World Series seems like a big 4-1 romp, but it’s amazing how close things
were to being a 3-2 lead for the Yankees right now with the Dodgers having their backs against the wall. And I think it would have been 3-2 Yankees if not for two plays:

1. Freeman’s HR in Game 1, obviously. Huge props to Freddie, but that was also arguably a mistake by Boone to pitch Cortes in that situation.

2. Judge’s error in Game 5. If he doesn’t commit that error, I don’t think the other errors happen, or at least they don’t matter much at all.

Absent those two huge plays, the narrative right now would be that the Yankees’ Cole pitched 2 gems while the Dodgers’ Flaherty pitched 2 stinkers, that the Dodgers’ thin pitching staff has finally been exposed, and that Ohtani has been quiet and is saddled with an injury. Instead, it appears like a romp for the Dodgers.

Also, it’s still unbelievable that the Dodgers clinched the title with a 7-6 win, on the road, scoring 5 runs on errors and 2 more on sacrifice flies.

And even those sacrifice flies were the result of another unforced error by the Yankees. The Dodgers led off the 8th with two singles (runners on 1st and 2nd), and then the Yankees immediately walked Smith on four pitches to load the bases with no outs. That walk allowed the Dodgers to score the tying run and then the winning run on sacrifice flies. The Yankees made it way too easy and have to be kicking themselves.
