This season is special, we likely end with at least 2 wins vs great teams
Kansas State is on track to be a double digit win team as is SMU, and if that happens, both end the season ranked. Those are really good teams. BYU rarely beats P4 teams that end the season ranked and have double digit wins (only once in our entire history). And we are on track to have two of those wins under our belts in this season. That goes to show how great this team is.

We have plenty of victories over P5/P4 teams in our program history. But often times those teams end the season with a losing record (like Pitt in '84) or barely bowl eligible. So in hindsight, they weren't as impressive as we thought at the time. In BYU's history, these are our best wins against P4 teams that turned out to be good/great teams at the end of the season.

Sitake era:
'24- Kansas State (record TBD, but still ranked #17)
'24- SMU (record TBD, but still ranked #20)
'21- Arizona State (8-5)
'21- Utah (10-4, finished ranked #12)
'19- Tennessee (8-5)
'19- USC (8-5)
'18- Wisconsin (8-5)

Bronco era:
'13 Texas (8-5)
'09 Oklahoma (8-5)
'09 Oregon State (8-5, finished ranked #18)

Lavell era:
'96 Kansas State (9-3, finished ranked #17)
'92 Penn State (7-5, finished ranked #24)
'90 Miami (10-2, finished ranked #3)

In hindsight, Miami truly is our best victory in program history. Utah in '21 might be our second best victory. And Kansas State in '96 our third best. It will be interesting to see how the SMU and Kansas State victories this year stack up when the season is over.
