Whitt is a great coach. And he’s 100% responsible for their QB disaster.
1. He consistently overhyped Rising.

2. He teased the Ute fanbase for 2 years with his “game time decision” narrative, knowing full well Rising would not play.

3. He put undue public pressure on Rising to play, despite the recommendation of Rising’s only trusted doctor. That “uno doctor” was the only doctor that only had Rising’s best interest in mind.

4. He failed to prepare a competent backup to Rising, and then threw a true-freshman QB to the wolves. Then threw Wilson under the bus when the inevitable happened (a struggling offense).

I know Wilson grew up an Utah fan, but he’s foolish to stay there another year. It really is a QB graveyard, with few exceptions.

Imagine how much better off he’d be at BYU.

- A full year to acclimate to college lifestyle and college ball. Redshirt this year, with zero pressure. Learn from a couple veteran QBs. Study the game. Learn the system. Adjust to the speed and complexity of CFB.

- Try to win the backup job next year. Possibly get some playing time in garbage time or to fill in for an injured Retzlaff.

- Hopefully win the starting job as a 3rd year Sophomore. Play in a QB friendly system, for a QB friendly OC. Playing for a head coach who truly has your best interest in mind.

I’m really meh about Wilson. I think he has a lot of potential, but I’m not convinced he’s better than other QBs we will get to commit.

For Wilson’s sake, I think he’d be smart to leave Itah and go to a place like BYU. But if he doesn’t, I don’t care…. good luck!
