BYU Fan All-American
At this point, what would make the season a disappointment for you as a fan?
I love that on October 24th there are conversations on CB about what teams we would prefer to play in the Big 12 title game and what needs to happen to get playoff bid. I love that I had a conversation with my brother yesterday about the possibility of hosting an SEC team on a cold December in LES. I love that the team still has everything to play for and that each game is getting bigger and bigger. I had a very pessimistic view to this season and thought that 6-6 and a bowl game would be a stretch for what BYU could accomplish this year. Obviously the team has blown away my expectations.

But I worry that as the team continues to win that we as a fanbase change our expectations. I am sure there are many on CB who are now expecting to win at Utah next month, something that was pretty much a fantasy a few months ago. A trip to Dallas for the Big 12 title game is becoming more of an expectation and less of a dream. We started the season hoping for a bowl game and some fans may now be disappointed with anything less than the playoffs.

Obviously I'm horrible at making predictions for this team and I'm trying to just sit back and enjoy the ride as much as I can. But I do worry that as a fanbase our expectations have changed. For example, if BYU were to finish 10-2 and play LSU in the Texas Bowl would fans be disappointed that we didn't make the playoffs? Or would we rightly considered it one of the best seasons in BYU history and be grateful for the incredible memories? Are fans going to be calling for Kalani's head if KWhitt & company get their act together and play their best game of the year at home on November 9th and get a win?

I get that as the season progresses it's fair to raise our expectations and dreams but I hope that when this team inevitably loses a game or two or three that we are able to keep things in perspective and remember that this team has already exceeded what many fans thought was possible. Losing sucks but I hope that we can celebrate a good and hopefully great season even if all our BYU football dreams don't come true this year.
