All my life, I've wanted BYU to have a legitimate chance to win another national championship. Knowing that magical seasons don't come around often, I want us to have a chance to play for a NC when they do.
I get that there is a discrepancy between how the Big 12 may be perceived compared to power teams from the SEC and Big Ten. I'm sure we (and others from the Big 12) will get passed over for an at large more often than we should. But, if we win our conference, we are in the playoffs. Period. No committees, no polls, no "east coast bias." We're in. Shoot, we can even go 0-3 in non-conference games and still get in if we win our conference.
This is something we have never been able to say since we upset the College Football world by winning the national championship in 1984.
So, in honor of the teams from 1979, 1980, 1983, 1996 (especially), 2001, 2006, 2009, and 2020 who should have been in discussion for a 12-team playoff, I am ecstatic for a clear, less biased path to a National Championship.
