Here's what I saw in that game last night.
* A veteran, well-coached OSU team with great athletes that had two weeks to prepare for us. They installed a bunch of new offensive sets that had our D confused at times, and it won them the first half.

* Stupid mistakes by Retzlaff on the interceptions, he kept giving them life. Regressed and played like it was game 1 instead of game 7. I'll give him credit for some great runs though.

* Very evenly matched teams. We've now gone toe to toe with one of the best teams in the league last season in our last two games against them. We belong in the Big12.

* Jay Hill started to make some adjustments and the D did better in the second half. We won 24-14 after halftime and showed why we're undefeated and they aren't.

* The OSU coaching staff really went into the Utah game on cruise control. They obviously could have put up more of a fight if they'd been as focused and desperate as they were coming into this game. Being at home, they coasted instead of taking Utah seriously and it began the derailment of their season. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

* That Ropati pass was just crap in every way. Why is he throwing into a group of about 4 defenders surrounding one BYU WR that's falling to the ground? With pressure in his face, falling backwards? That was just so bad. At every opportunity to change that play up, no one on the offense stopped it, they just sat and watched a train wreck happen. I don't ever want to see a trick play pass with an RB/TE/WR throwing into a completely crowded middle ever again. If you are going to do some tricks, you find the guy in single coverage down the sideline or behind the rest of the D, period. No exceptions. If he isn't there, you eat it and move on to the next play. Ropati either dumb in his head or really, really poorly coached on that one. I wonder if they even ran the play in practice or just talked about it.

* Batty not staying assignment-sound and getting torched by Rangel for that huge run was emblematic of the defensive problems all night, but mainly in that first half. They were lost out there. Coaches probably should have assumed OSU would install a new offense and keep things super simple and focus on gap control and assignments in the first half.

* Quite lucky to be able to overcome poor preparation, terrible turnovers, and a skilled+desperate opponent to steal that one away. Wow.

* It's a little shocking that team with the individuals they have is 0-4 in conf play. They returned almost the entire core of that champ game team from last year. I have to wonder about locker room issues that have been suspected.
