Capitalizing on turnovers - BYU has scored 55 points as a result of a turnover vs 3 points allowed this season. Amazing.
This season, our ability to convert points off turnovers has significantly improved. I reviewed each game to analyze turnover outcomes, counting defensive points, offensive points, and ending the game with a lead as positive results.

(Excluding end-of-half/game situations) In 2023, we averaged 3.2 points per turnover, compared to 4.6 this year. Opponents last season averaged 5.1 points per turnover; this year, they’re down to just 0.5 points.

Last year, 56% of our opponents’ 17 turnovers resulted in points or ending the game/half with a lead for us (48 points total, 4 per game). Meanwhile, 83% of our 18 turnovers led to points for opponents, totaling 86 points (7.1 per game).

This season, we’ve already forced 13 turnovers, with 77% resulting in points for us (55 points total, 9.2 per game). Remarkably, we’ve given up only one field goal from six turnovers—just 0.5 points per game.

By this point last year, we’d allowed 38 points from 8 turnovers while gaining only 28 points from 9 turnovers.
