I don’t care if Scalley has been promised and it’s in his contract. It would be very on brand for Utah to stab Scalley in the back for something else they think is better and would be totally willing to buy Scalley out. It’s only more appealing knowing that it hurts BYU at the same time, and only highlighted if our defense destroys Utah in a few weeks. I don’t think Hill would leave for anything less than a HC position so an offer as a DC is not gonna do it, there or anywhere IMO. The fact that it’s been openly discussed for a few years now, makes me think KW is going to retire soon, maybe at the end of the year.

All that said if Hill does get poached Sitake could go internal (Poppinga, Anderson, etc.) or be at a point where he could go and get a number of big names as a replacement for an outside hire (I’m thinking when Saban would hire all the recently fired head coaches that were victims of circumstance but good coaches - Sarkisian, Kiffin, Muschamp, Cristobal, or maybe someone like Aranda).

I just don’t believe Utah will just keep their word to Scalley if they feel like they can get Hill which they have a great shot. Also what’s to keep Hill from getting offers from other big programs as HC, I know his health is a factor but you never know. So BYU should be prepared and leverage the brand they’ve built and not limit themselves on who they could go get.
