Two years ago, BYU brought in the second most portal players. Wholesale changes in the offensive line, offensive backfield, wide receiver, core. Wholesale changes on the defense! It was an upgrade in talent and a downgrade and performance. Why?
The problem was that, because of the offense we run into things we ask our players on top of lack of chemistry and culture. The new players were unable to perform. When things got tough and we Folded. That’s what you qualify game losing streak.
Fast forward to this year all of those players have an additional year in the system, everyone is on the same page, and those same players are being successful.
Coach found this out in Colorado and hasn’t learned that lesson. If you bring in too many new people, you struggle
Part of athletics is learning to trust your teammates. The teams play well in the difficult times trust their teammates. I find it to be disruptive to bring in more than two or three starters on each side of the ball from the portal, because it disrupts your ability to perform as a unit
