I don't believe it for a second, but that is a cool stat. Alabama is ranked #1, we are #2, Georgia is #3, Tennessee is #4, and Texas is #5. Apparently the SOR is a measure of the probability that an average top 25 team could achieve a team's record given the strength of the teams that have been faced.
The bad news is that we know that BYU is not a top ten team, much less a top 2 team, so the SOR might be solid evidence that we have overachieved and are going to come back to earth very soon. It is interesting to think about how the K-state game might have turned out if Kingston had failed to snag the live ball on the punt return and K-State had punched it into the end zone. Sports are an interesting mix of skill, luck, and momentum sometimes.
