It's time to start tracking BYU playoff odds. Some people haven't adjusted their playoff intuition for the new 12 team world. Someone from the Big 12 is going to make it in, and right now there is no reason to think it couldn't be BYU. Very few teams in the country have the resume we have. We beat what is turning out to be a very good SMU team on the road, we beat down a very good KState team, and we beat a desperate Baylor team on the road in an early game (if that even matters).
Our chances of making it are 24% and we are only slightly behind Iowa St. Notably, our probability of winning the conference outright is 15%. This means there is still a chance of making the playoff even after losing the conference (most likely a scenario where we lose the conference championship game).
Being in a P4 conference with a guaranteed conference champ in the playoff just means we have a lot more roads to a playoff berth. Also having the tie-breaker maybe the best team in the conference doesn't hurt.
Utah, widely picked as a lock for playoffs, is now the 7th most likely in the conference. Yesterday was a good day.
