OP question re-phrased for younger parents "What financial future do you expect for your older siblings kids?"
There's a 10 year gap between my oldest and my older sister's oldest.

My oldest is 8 years old. My sister's oldest just started his mission in the Philippines in January. He completed HS, worked plenty at Chick-fil-a during HS, took care of himself mentally, physically, and spiritually from what I can tell he left for his mission wayyyy more prepared than I did.

Anyhow.. it's so much easier for me to prognosticate about his future being a well developed young man vs. my kids because I have sooooooo much more parenting to do in the next decade! My kid could be a rocket scientist, an army man, or any number of things at the moment.

Looking at my son is basically like looking at a sapling and trying to imagine what it's going to look like decades into the future vs looking at my nephew whose already developed into a great young person doing good in the world.

The main thing I'm trying to say is that it is much easier to prognosticate on the financial future of someone when there's a lot of the details already sorted out but even with my nephew there's still plenty of details to be sorted.
