What we learned about the team vs KSU & what unanswered questions remain

What we learned:

1. The defense is legitimately good. We also learned that they can indeed stop a running QB. Obviously they got forced into passing situations from being down several scores, but they still tried to run their QB and BYU's D kept him in check. This is probably the best QB/RB running duo we'll face all season. Also, SMU dropped 66 on TCU so that's further evidence that our defense is legit.

2. Jake Retzlaff has the ability to not turn the ball over and to be consistent throughout an entire game. Sure he's going to miss some open throws, but the people who blast him for that clearly dont watch any football outside of BYU. QBs miss open guys, especially in college. I'm very happy he showed he can protect the ball...when he ran, he wasn't flailing the ball all over the place as he has in the past. He also didnt make terrible attempts at a throw as he was being sacked or put under pressure. He looked far less rattled than he has been in the past when he was under pressure. He also made some really really good throws, like the Chase Roberts TD (among many others). This is who Jake is...you'll get a few misses each game and a few NFL level throws. As long as those misses aren't in places where they can be intercepted, I'm good with that.

3. A-Rod takes a lot of heat around here, but he called a great game. A-Rod's game plans and play calling have been behind a lot of our major upsets in recent years. Sure, he has some head-scratching play calls sometimes (I think some of these have to do with setting up plays later in the game/season), but vs KSU I thought it was excellent. We can really make some noise if A-Rod continues to game plan well and our guys execute those game plans well (definitely execution issues in the past, which A-Rod takes the heat for too).

4. Mostly answered in my opinion: we have a dependable back-up RB behind LJ. Sione Moa proved that he can actually break tackles, unlike all the other back-up RBs. He averaged 5.1 yards per carry including a beastmode-esque 24 yard TD run. I'm hate to say it, but I've seen enough Ropati and Davis...Sione should get all the back-up RB carries.

Unanswered questions:

1. Can BYU sustain long drives resulting in TDs? We had 3 TD drives on Saturday, they lasted 2 plays, 2 plays, 6 plays or 28 seconds, 59 seconds, 3 mins 22 seconds. This isn't a knock on BYU...obviously we like fast scores and when the defense gives you short fields, you're going to score faster. It's just an unanswered question...we haven't seen this team have long sustained drives resulting in TDs. Hopefully we see that vs Baylor (unless the D just dominates them again and gives our offense short fields again...I'm ok with that).

2. Pokaiaua Haunga. I was honestly thinking he'd split carries evenly with Sione Moa this game, but obviously the coaches decided to go all-in on Sione Moa. I'm really curious why. Nawahine was the only other RB to get carries. Haunga did get playing time though and laid down some nice blocks and also got a reception. He's still a question mark for me though...I liked the small amount I saw of him vs SMU though.

OK - what am I missing? What else do you guys think we learned about the team vs what unanswered questions remain?
