His eventual replacement (sorry it is going to happen) must come from whom Jay has mentored and coached with over the years. The defensive scheme is what we need to retain at a school like BYU. Complicated or not, we may not become a D Line first football team. Jay has demonstrated the dominant D Line philosophy isn't the only receipt for defensive success.
So what should be happening now is Jay is mentoring a few individuals so the scheme, legacy, and disciplines can be maintained going forward. I don't think Kalani is the guy to continue those same characteristics because he is the HC and different role.
So who is in line to replace Jay and has received the mentoring and coaching under Jay's tutelage?
