Lots of things went BYU's way yesterday...
Just a few off the top of my head.

1. KSU scores a TD on the first drive if not for the false start (their TE would have just walked into the EZ). Good on the fans for giving the KSU offense all kinds of trouble with false starts. Those were all huge.

2. The scoop & score. Fumbles happen all the time but rarely does the ball pop out like that. Any time is a good time for something like that to happen but the timing could not have been better. At that point it was K-State's game to lose and the defense would have eventually ran out of steam. But that play turned the mojo for good and then led to K-State wanting to be aggressive before half which then led to the INT and another BYU TD. Momentum is so big in sports.

3. The bounce on the muffed TD punt return (no explication needed).

4. A couple of the long passes were open for K-State that would have been TDs or big plays were just a smidge off.

Overall I think the result is an outlier (just like TCU-SMU & JMU-UNC) but credit to BYU for having a strategy and executing that strategy to a T. BYU obviously was playing a bend but try not to break defensive philosophy and daring K-State to throw the ball but basically giving them 5 yards per run (on most plays). But as the game went on BYU was able to be creative with the blitzing which kept K-State on their toes. Getting that lead at half made all of the difference.

Also, that goal line stand which was incorrectly called by the officials a TD was pretty good. If you're going to play the bend defense that's how you have to execute it. Well, that and creating turnovers. Hill is proving to be every bit or better than advertised - just hope he can stay healthy.

Finally, I still think BYU's ceiling is probably 9-3 or 8-4 but there is some optimism that somehow BYU can keep finding ways to win games. Next week would be a good time to get BYU's first road Big XII victory. Here's to hoping!
