Got rear ended. Insurance question
Totally the other guy's fault as we were sitting at a stoplight. He took full blame as did his insurance. It is a 2018 Kia Sorento. It has now been in 3 accidents.

Collision center called with an update that they were right about at the threshold for totaling the vehicle and are waiting on response from the insurance company.

I know in the case of it being totaled, the insurance company would want to just pay what the car is worth, instead of fixing it. However, I feel like what the car is likely worth peanuts due to being in 3 accidents. At today's car prices, I would not likely find a suitable replacement without a loss. I ultimately have the money if needed to buy another vehicle, but was really planning on driving that one into the ground.

It is paid off already. No mechanical issues and it is drivable, but the back tailgate is all jacked up and won't close.

Can I force the insurance company to repair instead of having them total it? or are my hands tied? I'd rather it just be fixed and I continue using it, instead of trying to shop around again for a new/used car and getting hosed right now with inflated prices.
