MLB Umpire Mistakes in Padres-Astros Game
It's been a long time since I saw MLB umps egregiously blow two calls in a game, but they did in this Padres-Astros game. The film clearly showed Altuve foul a ball off his front foot into fair territory. He didn't even try to run. The rule is that if a hit ball strikes the batter, it is automatically a foul ball and the play is dead. However, the Padres threw to first and the umps called Altuve out. When Altuve and the Houston manager argued the point, the home plate ump tossed both of them. Altuve even took his shoe off to show the ump the spot where he was hit.

The next one was a supposed HBP for Profar, who did a nice job of selling that he had been hit. The camera, however, showed clearly that he hadn't been. Umps gave him the base anyway. Houston won the game, but they certainly have a right to be ticked off at that umpiring crew. Both bad calls went for the Padres, so the Padre home crowd was happy with that. If that had happened in Houston, I suspect the crowd response would have been pretty angry.
