1. THEY’RE BAAACK! Casey Clinger and Creed Thompson went 1-2 and seem healthy as ever. Casey has a legit chance to be top five at NCAAs, and Creed could push for a top 20 finish.
2. Lotsa dudes missing. Likely top seven runners Joey Nokes, Davin Thompson, James Corrigan, Lucas Bons, and Aidan Troutner did not run. This was a combo of coming off injury, peaking too early in past seasons, and competing in the Olympics. I suspect we see the full lineup at Nuttycombe/Pre-Nats in two weeks.
3. Unattached runners give a glimpse as to who may redshirt. Noah Jenkins, Isaac Hedengren, Berkley Nance, Landon Heemeyer, and Brayden Packard all ran Unattached and are likely redshirt candidates. Noah Jenkins and Isaac Hedengren are likely to be top seven guys on future BYU squads.
4. Most pleasant surprise of the day? True freshman Berkley Nance finished in 11th place. Berkley had decent high school Track times (4:14/1600m, 9:02/3200m) but really excelled on the Cross-Country course (14:43/5k, 4th Foot Locker Nationals, 6th U20 Cross-Country Nationals). As he graduated from high school in 2024 not sure if he has plans to whiteshirt.
