as they may be, here they are:
Let me preface this by saying that these do not fully vindicate Retzlaff. They just give a more complete picture of what happened and why it happened. ARod philosophy given to all players is to not make a bad situation worse. Retzlaff did at least twice.
1. The fumble. Pay got the snap count wrong and hiked the ball too late for Jake to hand it off to the jet sweep. Instead of trying to regroup with no one to hand it to and make something out of nothing - he should have taken the sack. Of course, the Loyd voices would criticize him for taking the sack or not being in synch with his running back.
2. Pick 1. Blocked failed to pick up the blitz. Instead of trying to make something out of nothing, Retzlaff should have taken the sack. Of course Loyd voices would criticize him for not avoiding the sack.
3. Pick 2. This one was a fluke. The DL fell down and Retzlaff threw just as the DL popped back up and got the pick. This one was totally on Retzlaff, but a fluke.
The point is - there were plenty of mistakes involved and that is why coaches stuck with Retzlaff.
