When you're goalie struggles, a coach has to balance the risk to the team vs the risk to the individual player. Moreover, even if you have "your guy," sometimes the smartest thing to do for "your guy" is to yank him and prevent him from a death spiral that can have longer term consequences.
I don't know Jake and I don't know Kalani and ARod's relationship with Jake, but I worry a bit about the default mentality that we just "rally around and ride with our guy" out of a sense of loyalty. That can be a dangerous and damaging thing to both a team and a player.
