2026 4-Star Wing Austin Goosby a Top Priority for BYU

BYU is gearing up for a NCAA Tournament run and is nearing an potentially historic offseason to add to next season’s roster, but recruiting is heating up for the 2026 recruiting class.

One of the BYU’s top targets in the 2026 class is 4-star wing Austin Goosby. 247 Sports rates the Melissa, Texas product as the #27 recruit in the 2026 class. Goosby is LDS and arguably the best LDS player in the country, which gives BYU a connection to pursue him. In addition to BYU, he also has offers from Kansas, Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, Florida State, Kansas State, Oklahoma, and others.

Goosby lives in Texas but has family on his mom’s side that lives in Utah. He has one cousin that is attending BYU and other on a mission after starting at BYU.

Austin took an unofficial visit to BYU last weekend and attended the BYU-Utah game as part of it. I spoke to Austin’s dad Michael to get their perspective on the visit and how they view BYU.

Austin and his family arrived to Provo Thursday and attended a BYU practice Friday. Michael described the practice as a “pro style business” and that he had never seen a practice structured like BYU’s. Kevin Young gave Austin a practice sheet for that day that had the practice agenda; he ran Austin and his family through the practice sheet and explained why BYU was doing what they were doing.

Michael mentioned that Kevin Young wasn’t a screamer and was “blown away” by how Kevin Young would pull guys aside during practice and explain concepts that he had never even considered.

“Kevin Young is a basketball genius; it’s a whole other level of intelligence.” Michael told me. “We were blown away by Coach Young and BYU.”

The next day Austin and his family attended the BYU-Utah game. Austin and his parents have been to other schools for unofficial visits, including games at Kansas and Texas. Austin and his father attended the Kansas-Houston game in Lawrence.

“Kansas didn’t hold a candle to BYU’s atmosphere,” Michael explained. “BYU was electric.”

Michael went on to say that they expect to take an official visit to BYU and are targeting a date this summer. Austin has an older brother that is a football player at Texas, and I would consider Texas as a top contender. The family is Longhorns fans and has connections to the school.

BYU is a real player in Austin’s recruitment and Kevin Young made a great impression. As things stand today, BYU is one of the top schools Austin is considering.

You can watch highlights of Austin below and see his IG post from the visit. Austin is a talented scoring wing that can really get to the basket and knockdown outside shots. He projects as a NBA player and could be in school for multiple seasons.
