Fans who pay for NIL are quickly going to rebel and quit donating and/or demand regulation. And many will simply quit caring.
Businessmen that expected/hoped for a reasonable return on their NIL investment have been mostly disappointed. That business motivation is already just about dead (although there's a new sucker born every minute.)
Fans that expected their NIL donation to actually help their team have been kicked in the teeth. Even the bluest of bluebloods saw their rosters decimated by the portal and then had to slowly, painfully rebuild with incoming transfers. NIL donations feel like being held hostage--and the ransom demands keep going up with no guarantee that your team will get better. You're paying more to stay on a carousel that goes nowhere--and the carnival music sucks.
The quality of play actually decreases as every roster has to start from scratch every year. Coaches spend an increasing portion of their waking hours working NIL/portal/re-recruiting. Decreased focus on practice, coaching, conditioning, scouting and game prep has an impact on the quality of play.
NIL & transfer portal is an expensive bridge to nowhere and everyone knows it and will increasingly demand change.
